How do you create a new user role (Role) and assign permissions to it?

Creating user roles is one of DNN’s most powerful features for managing content access.

Creating user roles is one of DNN’s most powerful features for managing content access. To create a new role:

From the Persona Bar, go to Manage > Roles.

Click the Create New Role button.

  • Role Name: Enter a clear name for your role (e.g., "Blog Editors").
  • Description: Write a brief description of the role.
  • Security Mode: Select the Security Role option.
  • Public Role: If you want users to be able to join this role themselves, enable this option (usually disabled).

Save the settings.

Assigning access: After creating the role, go to the page or module you want to restrict. Open its Settings and go to the Permissions tab. You can now find the new role ("Blog Editors") and assign the desired access level (e.g., View or Edit).
